Just what is it that makes today's women so different, so appealing?

My goal for this body of work was to create a series of images that represented the different sides of a woman. I decided to do a reinterpretation of Richard Hamilton’s photomontage, “Just what is it that makes today’s homes so different, so appealing?”. I wanted to do this as in the past women were not allowed to express every aspect of their personality. They were expected to sit still and look pretty, be polite and only speak when spoken to. Today women have the liberty of being not only one thing but being an array of characteristics.  I used items such as a ribbon and fishnet stocking to represent the innocent and seductive side to women respectively. I wanted to choose items that would not only represent these sides but also prove that these elements can co-exist in one person. Every facet has its purpose and they work together to create beautiful complexity. I also wanted to include an item that involved fire to represent anger. This was a vital image for me as often women in today’s society are not allowed to simply be angry. Instead, they are often perceived as crazy or hysterical. Although the significance behind some of the materials I used are more abstract than others, the visual manifestation of these objects carries its meaning.
